Depression Counselling in Stourbridge

The first step to overcoming depression is recognising that you might be depressed, the second step is to seek help. This may seeking medical support through your GP and it may be therapeutic support through counselling. These two steps can often be the most difficult part of the road to recovery from depression.

Depression can be debilitating with its effects including, amongst many others, overwhelming sadness, tearfulness, emptiness, hopelessness and low or no motivation to do anything.

Therapeutic counselling is one method of helping people overcome depression by offering a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for clients to talk about what they have been, or are going through and how it is affecting them and their day to day lives.

People feeling depressed might find themselves withdraw from life if they can't cope and this only exacerbates the depression sending us into a deeper depression. We might lose our appetite or find ourselves comfort eating. We may have trouble sleeping and we might start using unhealthy coping mechanisms. Counselling will provide a space to talk about not only the depression but the effects it is having on us and our lives and then to help develop coping strategies.

Personal issues can often be difficult to talk about, particularly when we feel ashamed of our own behaviour or upset because someone else's behaviour has caused us pain. The benefit of depression counselling is that it provides an environment where these emotions are discussed and explored without fear or judgement.
